Kayvaan Shrike Conversion Commission

Not much to say, here's what I did over the past few days.

As an update I've done somework on the Ravens and have pulled out my pre-heresy Night Lords to do some wotk on too.

Raven Guard Chapter Symbol Tutorial.

A friend of mine has started Raven Guard, we have a new Raven Guard in our Deathwatch group so I felt inclined to come back to my own. I also figured to assist the friend of mine, who I'm also doing a commission version of "Shadow Captain Shrike", I'd post my free hand method of painting the Raven Guard chapter

Ron over at FTW posted this a while ago, and I like it but I honestly (and humbly) believe mine to be closer to the offical pics of the symbol.

So here's my attempt in 9 easy stages.

Stage 1: This is a space marine shoulder pad painted black.

Stage 2: Ok a little more complicated, 7 white dots, one two thrids up center, one either side, one about two thirds down center with one either side and finally one bottom center. (All in "Skull White")

Stage 3: Join the top 3 dots with a curved line.

Stage 4: Join the end of your new curve to the corner dots.

Stage 5a: A half mil apart draw two line down shown

Stage 5b: Repeat for the other side

Stage 6: Draw a "V" from the corner of the inner most wing sections to the lower dot

Stage 7; Draw a "V" down wards with two lines half a mil appart for the tail

Stage 8: Another "V" to make the tail a diamond, then fill in the tail and body. I also like to thicken the top win section to blend it into the body better.

Stage 9: The head is tricky and will just take a little practifce to get the right shape. Sorry. A small triangle will look just fine though.
Hope its helpful.

Sisters Rumors & Leaks

I'm a big Sisters fan, and have been waiting for this for months now.

Little of this info is mine just a compilantion form a few sources. (Thanks to Faeit 212 and Blood of Kittens Tasty Taste)

Sisters of Battle
Army Special Rules
The Acts of Faith system
At the start of your Movement phases you generate D6 Faith Points. Any Faith Points that are unused at the end of YOUR turn are lost.

Tests of Faith
An Act of Faith can be attempted immediately before a Sisters of Battle unit acts during a phase; e.g. before the unit Moves, Shoots (or runs) or Assaults.

Each attempt costs 1 Faith Point, if test if failed the point is lost.

To attempt an Act of Faith, select the unit and reduce your Faith Points by 1, then roll a D6 and add the following:

+1 if the unit is led by a Superior (Sister, Celestian, Dominion or Seraphim) or Mistress of Repentance.

+1 if the unit has been joined by a Canoness, Confessor, Saint Celestine, Uriah Jacobus or Arch-Confessor Kyrinov

+1 if the unit has taken at least 1 casualty

All modifiers are cumulative (so with 1 IC in a unit with a Superior that has taken at least 1 casualty only needs a 2+ to be successful)

If the total is equal to or greater than 5 the Act of Faith is successful, the unit immediately gains a bonus and/or special rules until the end of the phase.

Independent Characters and Acts of Faith

IC that have the Acts of Faith rule benefit from any bonuses received by the unit they are with when an Act of Faith is used, likewise the unit receives any bonuses from the ICs Acts of Faith when they are successful. Note you still have to perform 2 different Tests of Faith if you want to use both the ICs and the units Act of Faith.

Too Small and a Lack of Motivation.

Get your mind out the gutter. While whisked away by my family today (ah family fun the nice way of saying sunburn, boredom and fights) I looked at making a few 500 pt lists using both the Space Marine codex (The codex I should use) and the Blood Angels codex (The codex I do use). I came to one conclusion 500 pts is not enough!

I did write up a few ideas though (all be it in very shaky car writing). Everything at the minute though hinges on what my partner is taking as Raven Guard using either codex are very close combat oriented, unless I go with a scout force.

An oldie but a goodie

Space Marine 500pts

Captain + Jump Pack + Relic Blade - 155

Man Scout Squad + Sniper rifles + Sgt Tellion -115

10 Man Assault Squad + Power Fist + Flamer  - 225

Total - 500

A bit of a mixed list hoping that Space Wolves can take a charge and the Ravens can counter charge, however the Blood Angels list would do that better.

Blood Angels 500pts

Librarian + Jump Pack + Epistolary - 175

10 Man Assault Squad + Power Fist + 2 x Meltagun - 235

Sanguinary Priest + Jump Pack + Lightning Claw - 85

Total - 500

The most blood angel pic ever!

Hope to get some feed back on the lists and get my partners up soon too.

The other point of this post is just a venting system for my lack of motivation to paint the last few days, I know I need to finish the Ravens and get the Sallies done to get them on the market.

I assume after a few beers, some after sun and a good nights sleep I'll be ready to get painting and hopefully
bring you all some lovely pics. Until then feedback's always good, as some people find it but others don't my email address is Citizenwilliams@gmail.com as apparently some people dislike leaving public comments, also I have added some minimal ads to the blog, ignore them if you want but if you like what you read please click on a couple even 2p per visitor will help me to fund commissions and the caffeine I need to paint.

Unrelated but it made me laugh.

Doubles Tournament

Due to my weekly deathwatch appointment on a Saturday (oh yes all Saturday) I haven't had chance to do much painting so no nice models to show you. However last night I did commit my self to a 1000 point doubles tournament with a friend of mine as part of a rivalry between our FLGS.

So this week I'll be giving some thought to what 500 points I want to take, probably of raven guard. Also hopefully a look at what my partner plans to take which will probably be Space Wolves.

First ideas up tomorrow. Any suggestions for cool themes would be appreciated.

"A Salamander Has Appeared"

(That's right dear reader a "Dungeon Keeper" reference, retro!)

As Salamander week continues I thought I'd bring you a few more pics. Today's offering a dreadnought, one of two in the list, and a teaser from the nearly completed tactical squad. Without further ado lets get into it.

Not alot to say really some more tomorrow if all goes to plan and I stay sober enough to type when I return from the pub. There may also be some Raven Guard.

Flaming Paint Brushes & Acrobatic Lizards

So as promised a few pictures of the finished salamanders, only a couple at the minute but I want them all too look bling.

This is the terminator captain still need a little washing and free hand text but is pretty much done, he was done first after his impressive performance in the test game yesterday.

This is the banner bearer who carriers the very shiny banner featured in the last paint station tour. Really happy with how he's turned out and am working on the rest of the command squad tonight. Again he needs a little free hand text on him and both need basing but I'm not sure how to do that I want to try and make volcanic bases. Will probably do a full post on that soon.

Well hope you like, feedback is most welcome.

Dousing the Flame

So tonight I visited a local gaming club with a friend of mine to test the Salamanders list. It's not good...

see you next time.

Oh OK. The list has the flaw all space marine infantry list have its slow, and against grey knights, or counts as as his custodes army is, that is a big problem. Grey Knights excel at shooting and are pretty damn good at combat too, so the only section of the list not dread-knighted very early on were the terminators, especially the captain who made a stupid amount of invulnerable saves and tonked out many a terminator to avenge his brethren.

Here's the GK list, not much else to say so I'll post some lovely pics of salamanders tomorrow as I took a camera but entirely forgot to take any pics :S.

Grand Master + Halberd + Psycannon

10 Grey Knights + 2x Psycannon + Halberds

10 Grey Knights + 2x Psycannon + Halberds

5 Terminatos+ Brotherhood Banner + 2 x Psycannon + 2x Swords + Hammer

Dread Knight + (jumpy thing :S) + Psilencer

Dread Knight + (jumpy thing :S) + Flame weapon

I will alter this once I look in the codex but kill team calls and I'm a little drunk.

Until Tomorrow
