Guard! On the Double!

Right a day late due to Blogger hating me but here goes. "A.D." (you'll see his comments about) and I are heading to doubles with "The Dwarf" and his cousin.

So after a few test plays and alot of discussion we've decided on the following

Me : Imperial Guard
A.D.; Blood Angels (using my Raven Guard)

The Dwarf: Salamanders (they will look familiar in pics ;p)
His Cousin: Dark Angels (the dwarf will be proxing his cousins army with my old Deathwing for test games)

So for a brief over view of the army rules.
1750 divided in half and one force organisation chart between the pair. Each player must take 1 HQ and one troops choice the rest of the choices are free reign. There is an allies matrix with rewards and punishments for fluffy and non fluffy alliances. Both our pairs have a "battle brothers" alliance and can take a veteran skill for once squad which must be noted in the list.

Tomorrow I'll post the total 1750 for A.D. and I once I spray it tomorrow morning, and our list too as I'm waiting for a confirmed version of his half.

Next time - Drunk, Sexy and full of Points.

Painting and Planning

So another busy week, full of hardcore death watching and painting, so I thought I'd let you all see what I've been up to this week before I start my "Doubles 2012" buildup tomorrow.

So a day in my FLGS and the manager and I are bored with many hours to go until the shop closes so we stumble on a challenge one single minature in the 5 hours until the storw closes. This was my effort after a mutual friend choose the model we'd paint. I will attempt to get a picture of Brendon's effort too.

Another single model, this time thats sat in my bitz box since his release but has found a new lease of life as I#m hoping to enter him in a painting competition run by my other FLGS (yes I go to two).

The first model for my ToS october list.... here we go again

Finally, the stat of my necron army. While not 40k i am painting sveral plastic darleks for my 11 year old sister who didn't realise her new toys were model kits.

So see you here tomorrow for the final doubles list of team "Drunk and Sexy".

In The Mean Time

Right, ToS coverage continues on GMorts Blog (see side bar) and I will do a bit of a blow by blow of my own once I have the pictures from him but until then an update.

Currently I'm finishing off the Salamanders, who now have a home. Pics will be up when my camera wants to work, liking how they are and will be sad to see them go. I'm also working on 750pts of Imperial guard, my section of a doubles army. I'm really enjoying the project and guard are a nice break from marines. My only other current project is my dreadfleet. I've built it all now and had a few games, with one ship also nearly being painted. The detail is nice on the minis but so fiddly to paint.

Plans for the future are,

1) Finish sallies
2) Complete guard
3) Finish Dreadfleet
4) Strip "Soul Drinkers company"
5) Paint company Raven guard
6) Start Corax!

Sorry about the lack of pictures, my camera and I will be having words. Hopefully have some pics of Soul drinkers for memories up by the weekend and I will grab the pics of GMort by then.

"Many A Quaint And Curious Volume Of Forgotten Lore"

So 3 day, 10 Raven Guard, 3 shifts in work, and alot of drybrushing bases to go. Fortunately my army list is done and I'm very happy with it despite the few compromises I've had to make. So with no futher pomp, here it is.

Not a long one, need to paint.

Quoth The Raven: 5 Days To Go

So 5 days until ToS and I'm still painting. I have the day off tomorrow but thats it for painting time before friday night when I hit Nottingham.

This pic shows where the Salamanders are at, for the moment they are on hold as I am so late.

Here are the Ravens, 25 still to paint, 3 objective markers and LOADS of edge highlights to do probably on Friday night,

One plus point of being late is I have a weird state of clarity where by I realised I hadn't made enough objective markers, rectified now, and also I had no way of showing when my squads enter the "red thrist" so using an idea I stole from a friend.

These are just bases with tranfers on but will serve as a marker and were cheap and easy in my panic

Also I'm still working on the army list, the typing is now all done and the skullt have been weather (many thanks to FatLad) tomorrow I'm printing off the adjusted full version on nicer paper ready to look fancy.

Well thats it, update soon with how the week ends, for now back to painting.

Avast!

So another busy day of readying Salamanders, with only a single dreadnought to finish.
However a break from what will be a week of updates on painting (well the small amount I can do after work each night.)

So today we're going to assess my latest purchase... Pirate style. Yar!!

So me hearties, the box is a fine sturdy design perfect for holdling all ye booty, and tiny plastic ships into the bargain.

The molding be crisp and detailed, with the finest parts bein' the isles and wrecks. Some of the finest my one eyes has ever seen har har!

Unlike the other GW games and uncharted seas (yar I know workshop may have plundered some ideas there) the board for ye grand adventures be included and a fine piece of craft it is. storable and with a really nice finish to the mat.

The cards are a little fiddly but no more so that thos eye be getting with Horus Heresy ( a revew of that will be coming soon!)

The rules book is a vast tome of not just rules but fluff and artwork. The book seems pretty durable but shouldn't take too much damage in the mighty chest.

Overall I give the product 9/10, I;ve only briefly seen it played and want to get mine painted up after GT before I play it my self so watch this space for piratey adventures.

In other news I also continued the cover for my army list. Hopefully I'll get to the content tomorrow.

Right back to painting. Talk soon

What Am I Getting Myself Into?

This picture seemed to sum up the title.

Hey, after a busy September mostly filled with work I was left with the option to either paint or write about painting. I chose to paint and still got v little done.

This month I am in full 40k mode, with a new army on the go (previews coming) a commission army and my Raven Guard both to finish (two week until Autumn Throne of Skulls for the UK). Despite this I will be posting this month especially the next two weeks as I paint like a fiend and still try to do death watch, college and any work.

Point one - my new project is.... Drum roll

That's right Guard. I'm going for an infantry "Siege" list lots of artillery and to add some fluff my commissars will use Black Templar models. Pics to follow.

Point two - my paint station.

Ravens are the weekends issue. For now Here is the Sallies progress as of 11am and the guard I have built.

The Templar is my test for the scheme and also my test for the few weathering powders I've bought.

Almost forgot, I'm also working on a leather bound army list decorated with skulls and feathers, Raven Guard Style for ToS.

That's it hopefully some more pics in the next few days.

A New Addition.

Ok Corax arrived so I figured I'd do a bit of a product review.

The model is pretty crisp and the metal of decent quality. However the lightning claws provided are awefully molded and I will be making replacemements, and the loin cloth pieces don't really seem to fit on the model.

I like the posing but many have commented to me on Corax's "gay ballerina" pose so clearly theres so issue, I also intend to green stuff the models hair out a little as its a bit pony tail esq at the minute.

Overall I give the model a 7/10.

Ok now for some appologies. Blog posting will resume now thanks to my internet connection being up, me being in funds to buy paints and models and the fact I'm no longer in France.

Tomorrow I'll post the first in a series of painting tutorials I've been working on.
Feed back on articles you've liked or found useful would be helpful too, and please pass on the commission site to people if you can. More will be gong on there soon as I have a couple of days off to work on it and cleaning up some models to add to it.
