Avast!

So another busy day of readying Salamanders, with only a single dreadnought to finish.
However a break from what will be a week of updates on painting (well the small amount I can do after work each night.)

So today we're going to assess my latest purchase... Pirate style. Yar!!

So me hearties, the box is a fine sturdy design perfect for holdling all ye booty, and tiny plastic ships into the bargain.

The molding be crisp and detailed, with the finest parts bein' the isles and wrecks. Some of the finest my one eyes has ever seen har har!

Unlike the other GW games and uncharted seas (yar I know workshop may have plundered some ideas there) the board for ye grand adventures be included and a fine piece of craft it is. storable and with a really nice finish to the mat.

The cards are a little fiddly but no more so that thos eye be getting with Horus Heresy ( a revew of that will be coming soon!)

The rules book is a vast tome of not just rules but fluff and artwork. The book seems pretty durable but shouldn't take too much damage in the mighty chest.

Overall I give the product 9/10, I;ve only briefly seen it played and want to get mine painted up after GT before I play it my self so watch this space for piratey adventures.

In other news I also continued the cover for my army list. Hopefully I'll get to the content tomorrow.

Right back to painting. Talk soon

What Am I Getting Myself Into?

This picture seemed to sum up the title.

Hey, after a busy September mostly filled with work I was left with the option to either paint or write about painting. I chose to paint and still got v little done.

This month I am in full 40k mode, with a new army on the go (previews coming) a commission army and my Raven Guard both to finish (two week until Autumn Throne of Skulls for the UK). Despite this I will be posting this month especially the next two weeks as I paint like a fiend and still try to do death watch, college and any work.

Point one - my new project is.... Drum roll

That's right Guard. I'm going for an infantry "Siege" list lots of artillery and to add some fluff my commissars will use Black Templar models. Pics to follow.

Point two - my paint station.

Ravens are the weekends issue. For now Here is the Sallies progress as of 11am and the guard I have built.

The Templar is my test for the scheme and also my test for the few weathering powders I've bought.

Almost forgot, I'm also working on a leather bound army list decorated with skulls and feathers, Raven Guard Style for ToS.

That's it hopefully some more pics in the next few days.

"A Salamander Has Appeared"

(That's right dear reader a "Dungeon Keeper" reference, retro!)

As Salamander week continues I thought I'd bring you a few more pics. Today's offering a dreadnought, one of two in the list, and a teaser from the nearly completed tactical squad. Without further ado lets get into it.

Not alot to say really some more tomorrow if all goes to plan and I stay sober enough to type when I return from the pub. There may also be some Raven Guard.

Flaming Paint Brushes & Acrobatic Lizards

So as promised a few pictures of the finished salamanders, only a couple at the minute but I want them all too look bling.

This is the terminator captain still need a little washing and free hand text but is pretty much done, he was done first after his impressive performance in the test game yesterday.

This is the banner bearer who carriers the very shiny banner featured in the last paint station tour. Really happy with how he's turned out and am working on the rest of the command squad tonight. Again he needs a little free hand text on him and both need basing but I'm not sure how to do that I want to try and make volcanic bases. Will probably do a full post on that soon.

Well hope you like, feedback is most welcome.

Dousing the Flame

So tonight I visited a local gaming club with a friend of mine to test the Salamanders list. It's not good...

see you next time.

Oh OK. The list has the flaw all space marine infantry list have its slow, and against grey knights, or counts as as his custodes army is, that is a big problem. Grey Knights excel at shooting and are pretty damn good at combat too, so the only section of the list not dread-knighted very early on were the terminators, especially the captain who made a stupid amount of invulnerable saves and tonked out many a terminator to avenge his brethren.

Here's the GK list, not much else to say so I'll post some lovely pics of salamanders tomorrow as I took a camera but entirely forgot to take any pics :S.

Grand Master + Halberd + Psycannon

10 Grey Knights + 2x Psycannon + Halberds

10 Grey Knights + 2x Psycannon + Halberds

5 Terminatos+ Brotherhood Banner + 2 x Psycannon + 2x Swords + Hammer

Dread Knight + (jumpy thing :S) + Psilencer

Dread Knight + (jumpy thing :S) + Flame weapon

Vindicare

I will alter this once I look in the codex but kill team calls and I'm a little drunk.

Until Tomorrow

Salamanders List For Play Test

Later today I'm off to a gaming club to give the salamanders a play test. You may ask why when I'm going to sell them and you'd be right too and that's because I want to see if I'm selling just a nice shelf army or one that can be used looks good and costs v little (even bought new)

This List I'll be using is as follows.

10 Assault Terminators + Thunder Hammer & Storm Shield:  400

Tactical Squad (10 man) +  Multi-Melta + Flamer + Power Fist: 195

Tour : Second Leg

Job interviews, drinking and life in general have caught up with a bit of late so I present to you another tour of my paint station to show how I'm budgetting my hobby time. Here goes.

Diorama of Kill Team Epsilon, coming along still needs a lot of work though

About 70% of the Salamanders 1750pts I'm putting together to sell. These will be my main focus this week and should have a few post dedicated to them.

A converted Death Jester, I gained a free one thanks to GW's finecast polisy and a commission job so i tinkered for a distraction. I like him, I call him Clive.

Brother Magron of Kill team Epsilon nearly done he needs a few hours of serious love though.

Salamanders banner for the army

So good it deserved a better shot, I didn't paint this!

Hopefully get the final Sallies list up soon and a few more done pics. If I get chance giving the Ravens a full day of work too.
