Too Small and a Lack of Motivation.

Get your mind out the gutter. While whisked away by my family today (ah family fun the nice way of saying sunburn, boredom and fights) I looked at making a few 500 pt lists using both the Space Marine codex (The codex I should use) and the Blood Angels codex (The codex I do use). I came to one conclusion 500 pts is not enough!

I did write up a few ideas though (all be it in very shaky car writing). Everything at the minute though hinges on what my partner is taking as Raven Guard using either codex are very close combat oriented, unless I go with a scout force.

An oldie but a goodie

Space Marine 500pts

Captain + Jump Pack + Relic Blade - 155

Man Scout Squad + Sniper rifles + Sgt Tellion -115

10 Man Assault Squad + Power Fist + Flamer  - 225

Total - 500

A bit of a mixed list hoping that Space Wolves can take a charge and the Ravens can counter charge, however the Blood Angels list would do that better.

Blood Angels 500pts

Librarian + Jump Pack + Epistolary - 175

10 Man Assault Squad + Power Fist + 2 x Meltagun - 235

Sanguinary Priest + Jump Pack + Lightning Claw - 85

Total - 500

The most blood angel pic ever!

Hope to get some feed back on the lists and get my partners up soon too.

The other point of this post is just a venting system for my lack of motivation to paint the last few days, I know I need to finish the Ravens and get the Sallies done to get them on the market.

I assume after a few beers, some after sun and a good nights sleep I'll be ready to get painting and hopefully
bring you all some lovely pics. Until then feedback's always good, as some people find it but others don't my email address is Citizenwilliams@gmail.com as apparently some people dislike leaving public comments, also I have added some minimal ads to the blog, ignore them if you want but if you like what you read please click on a couple even 2p per visitor will help me to fund commissions and the caffeine I need to paint.

Unrelated but it made me laugh.

Salamanders List For Play Test

Later today I'm off to a gaming club to give the salamanders a play test. You may ask why when I'm going to sell them and you'd be right too and that's because I want to see if I'm selling just a nice shelf army or one that can be used looks good and costs v little (even bought new)

This List I'll be using is as follows.

Vulkan: 190

Captain + Terminator Armour + Thunder Hammer & Storm Shield: 170

Command Squad + 2 X Thunder Hammer & Storm Shield + Storm Shield + Company Banner + Company Champion: 250

10 Assault Terminators + Thunder Hammer & Storm Shield:  400

Tactical Squad (10 man) +  Multi-Melta + Meltagun + Combi-Flamer + Power Fist: 210

Tactical Squad (10 man) +  Multi-Melta + Flamer + Power Fist: 195

Dreadnought + Heavy Flamer + Multi-Melta : 115

Dreadnought + Heavy Flamer + Multi-Melta : 115

Total: 1750

Will let you know how they get on with a few pics, and close ups later in the week.

List Help Redo

ITS YOUR LIST CITIZEN, IT'S NOT UP TO SCRATCH.

So it seems the list I posted yesterday isn't good enough, so a few adjustments, as I have very little else to post about as my time has been taken up painting and creating a website.
Right this much of the list is all good;

Captain Kayvaan Shrike - 195

Dreadnought + Heavy flamer + Multimelta + Droppod - 150

Dreadnought + Heavy flamer + Multimelta + Droppod - 150

Tactical Squad (10 men) + Multimelta + Meltagun + Powerfist + Droppod - 230

Tactical Squad (10 men) + Multimelta + Meltagun + Powerfist + Droppod - 230

Tactical Squad (10 men) + Multimelta + Meltagun + Powerfist + Droppod - 230

Assault Squad (10 men) + Flamer x 2 + Power Fist - 225

and leaves us with 340pt.
So what can we buy for this 340? Well we've used 1 HQ slot, 3 Troops slots, 2 Elites slots and 1 Fast Attack slot.

Another Droppod dread would fit nicely and give a first wave of three multimelta dreads, though I know snaz has a spare iron clad, which would work better.

Iron Clad - 135
Heavy Flamer - 10
Droppod - 35

so for 180 e little more expensive but armour 13 in combat makes a big difference.

Right we're now out of Elites slots with 160 not the best amount of points. To stay in theme I'd be tempted by a scout squad but for effective impact we'll go with a landspeeders.

2 of these babies properly equipped (heavy flamer multi melta) cost are going to us 140

This gives your 20 points for all those extra gubbins we all love to stick in.

Whole list reads as;

Captain Kayvaan Shrike - 195

Ironclad Dreadnought + Heavy flamer + Droppod - 180
Dreadnought + Heavy flamer + Multimelta + Droppod - 150

Dreadnought + Heavy flamer + Multimelta + Droppod - 150

Tactical Squad (10 men) + Multimelta + Meltagun + Powerfist + Droppod - 230

Tactical Squad (10 men) + Multimelta + Meltagun + Powerfist + Droppod - 230

Tactical Squad (10 men) + Multimelta + Meltagun + Powerfist + Droppod - 230

Assault Squad (10 men) + Flamer x 2 + Power Fist - 225

Landspeeder + Multimelta + Heavy flamer - 70

Landspeeder + Multimelta + Heavy flamer - 70

Hope this ones ok.

Another lovely Sister of Battle and a Space Marine to read all your lovely comments

List Help... "Once More In To The Breach"

On request once more I have written a Ravens list given these parameters on Facebook;

"Louis Snazle: I'm cleaning up 4 tactical, 2 jumppack marine squad. I have all the heros. 3 assault on black reach dreads, 6 drop pods. so they are the basis of some sort of army" (I've tidied the grammar a little)

Raven Guard - 1750

Captain Kayvaan Shrike - 195

Vanguard Squad (5 men) + 10 x lightning claws + 5 x Jumppack - 310 (Shrikes wing)

Dreadnought + Heavy flamer + Multimelta + Droppod - 150

Dreadnought + Heavy flamer + Multimelta + Droppod - 150

Tactical Squad (10 men) + Multimelta + Meltagun + Powerfist + Droppod - 230

Tactical Squad (10 men) + Multimelta + Meltagun + Powerfist + Droppod - 230

Tactical Squad (10 men) + Multimelta + Meltagun + Powerfist + Droppod - 230

Assault Squad (10 men) + Flamer x 2 + Power Fist - 225

this come to 1720, giving you some wiggle points.

Fluffy but effective and using all your cleaned stuff. Give me a shout if you need more.

A short post today but I'm working on a webstore (there's a link in the left hand side bar)

For now I shall leave you all in the capable hands of one of the Emperors finest.

Looking To The Future.

Just a quick update before the post, Hector Rex has spent 24 hours in his cosy smelly bath and has come out clean, I wanted to show you all a pic but I've base coated him as I didn't think so will show you the finished model soon. On the downside my hands stink of dettol.

Also Ravens have had one of the 5 man squads finished and I've been working on the command squad I'm hoping to have a shiny update post up at the weekend.

But for now my mind has been wandering, due to clearing out my hobby cupboard I've come to realise I've only done power armoured armies (Marines, Chaos Marines, Sisters of Battle) and many of my gamer friends are starting new armies several of them the armies I wanted to do, then I looked at Eldar.

I've always liked the aspect warriors, especially as you can paint a few different colours in one force to add some variety which I would very much enjoy. Then i picked up the codex and thought about the units I like, that combined with pen and paper led to this.

Eldar - 2000pts (ish)

Jain Zar (I will be converting the model): 190

10 Howling Banshees (Exarch + Executioner + War Shout + Acrobatics): 192
Wave Serpent + Twin-linked Bright Lance: 145

10 Howling Banshees (Exarch + Executioner + War Shout + Acrobatics): 192
Wave Serpent + Twin-linked Bright Lance: 145

10 Howling Banshees (Exarch + Executioner + War Shout + Acrobatics): 192
Wave Serpent + Twin-linked Bright Lance: 145

10 Dire Avengers (Exarch + Power Weapon & Shimmer Shield + Defend + Bladestorm); 177
Wave Serpent + Twin-linked Bright Lance: 145

10 Dire Avengers (Exarch + Power Weapon & Shimmer Shield + Defend + Bladestorm); 177
Wave Serpent + Twin-linked Bright Lance: 145

Wraithlord (Wraith Sword + Shuriken Cannon) (converted to look like a Banshee): 110

While not the most effective list I think it will be fun to paint and use.

Comments, crits, poems, limericks welcome

new secretary theme for a bit, 40k cosplay ladies ;)

Final List?

OK my list for GT has been playing on my mind. Having added the librarian and played a few games (under pointed) I'm very happy with him, so with him being a pretty permanant addition its time to balance out the points.

I opted to stick to GMorts maximum melta weapons as the mass assault marines are more than capable of handling hoardes. With this in mind I also decided I'd rather expand what I have and know how to use in the list.
Without further gilding the lilly here goes;

1750 Pts - Blood Angels Roster - 'Counts-As' Raven Guard 8th Company.

HQ: Librarian (1#, 125pts)
Librarian (Jump pack)
Blood lance, Smite

: Honour Guard (5#, 265 pts)
1 Honour Guard @ 265 pts (Chapter Banner; Equip with Jump Packs; Honour Guard; Honour Guard)
1 Sanguinary Novitiate (Jump Pack)
3 Honour Guard (Jump Pack; Flamer x1; Meltagun x1)
1 Honour Guard (Jump Pack)

Elite: Sanguinary Priest (2#, 180 pts)
2 Sanguinary Priest @ 180 pts (Sanguinary Priest in Power Armour)
2 Sanguinary Priest in Power Armour (Jump Pack; Lightning Claw)

Troops: Assault Squad (10#, 235 pts)
7 Assault Squad @ 235 pts (Meltagun; Meltagun)
2 Assault Marine with Meltagun
1 Sergeant (Bolt Pistol; Power Fist x1)

Troops: Assault Squad (10#, 235 pts)
7 Assault Squad @ 235 pts (Meltagun; Meltagun)
2 Assault Marine with Meltagun
1 Sergeant (Bolt Pistol; Power Fist x1)

Troops: Assault Squad (10#, 235 pts)
7 Assault Squad @ 235 pts (Meltagun; Meltagun)
2 Assault Marine with Meltagun
1 Sergeant (Bolt Pistol; Power Fist x1)

Troops: Assault Squad (10#, 225 pts)
7 Assault Squad @ 240 pts (Meltagun)
2 Assault Marine with Meltagun
1 Sergeant (Power Weapon x1)

Troops: Assault Squad (5#, 125 pts)
3 Assault Squad @ 125 pts (Meltagun)
1 Assault Marine with Meltagun
1 Sergeant ( Infernus Pistol x1)

Troops: Assault Squad (5#, 125 pts)
3 Assault Squad @ 125 pts (Meltagun)
1 Assault Marine with Meltagun
1 Sergeant ( Infernus Pistol x1)

Total Roster Cost: 1750

This is the list in all its unpainted glory, I'm slogging through though.

This pic is of the scout contingent, I currently own. Hopefully This will be company size some day. Not too much to say about them but people complain if there aren't pretty things to look at.

As usual comments, feedback and questions on painting (maybe lists if its marines :P) very welcome. Todays comment secretary, is the lovely Kate Beckinsale.

How To Solve a Problem Like Psykers

OK, recently my Raven Guard list "evolved slightly" (again) and my "fake" Dante hung up his jump pack and passed his HQ baton to a librarian. This filled two holes in my list, the first psychic defence, which due to the grey knight power 'Warp Quake' I am in need of as my armies effective range is only 12".
The second is Dante lacks the power of the librarian, he's amazing as a utility, taking down HQ stats, non scatter dropping, and "hit and run" (when I remember to use it). All these positives though don't help him smackdown a wraith lord, so for now he is benched.

However the arrival of the librarian brings about another problem, which of the many Blood angels powers do I take and how do I use them effectively?

The second part I'm still too new at using him to know but for now I've settled on "Blood Lance" and "Smite". He's also upgraded to an epistolary so I can still use my force sword in combat. This may change however as so far I haven't used either shooting power before combat.

Smite

Range 12"
Strength: 4
AP: 2
Type: Assault 4

I love Smite, I have for years, the power, its simple and effective and adds a little more anti heavy infantry to my list. I also love the imagery, a librarian blasting a unit with tiny spears of mind energy.
Currently I use this power least but it has helped me out against Lysander in a game this week, who failed all 4 of his invulnerable saves and I laughed like a deranged gothic war gamer... oh wait...

Blood Lance

Range 4D6"
Strength: 8
AP: 1
Type: Heavy 1, Lance

My Ravens list doesn't exactly lack anti tank power, over 12 melta shots a turn does alot of damage. However what it lacks is range, normally I'll have to shoot a tank at close range and weather a charge with a squad, this power have saved me from that 4 times in 3 games so far. This is alot to do with luck, which is my only issue with the power, its unpredictability.

Reserve Powers

The other powers I've considered are;

Shield of Sanuinius - While my Ravens mostly have feel no pain, they suffer alot from power weapons, low AP and rending (like all marines). I've considered this power to protect my 'vanguard' squad a little so more of them make it into combat, which they need to as its my one real way of dealing with the enemy.

Unleash Rage - Again a power to boost my combat prowess, this power will definitely require me keeping the librarian as an epistolary.

Comments, criticism and advice are very welcome. Eva likes to read them...

Ravens Help MKII

Right as my first attempt was met with... less than enthusiastic praise here's attempt two, dropping the assault marine heavy idea Korvydae almost demands, and more anti tank.

-------------
Raven Guard - 1750

Captain Kayvaan Shrike - 195

Chaplin + Jumppack - 115

Vanguard Squad (5 men) + 10 x lightning claws + 5 x Jumppack - 310 (Shrikes wing)

Dreadnought + Heavy flamer + Multimelta + Droppod - 150

Scout Squad (10 men) + Sniper Rifles + Missile Launcher + Sergeant Telion - 215

Tactical Squad (10 men) + Multimelta + Meltagun + Powerfist + Droppod - 230

Tactical Squad (10 men) + Multimelta + Meltagun + Powerfist + Droppod - 230

Landspeeder + Multimelta + Heavy Flamer X2 - 140

Landspeeder + Multimelta + Heavy Flamer X2 - 140

1725
---------------

This is a good fluffy list, I think anyway. 25 points gives you chance to change the dreads weapons or give the Chaplin a fist.
Scouts can also be dropped for another tactical if you want. My only other idea is replace a tactical with

------------

Assault Squad (10 men) + Flamer x 2 + Power Fist - 235

------------

List is a bit more of a semi optomised "battle force list" but i think it should work in a similar way to my soul drinkers.
If you're not set on the chaplin I can do a better version with two dreads as your first wave backed up by the tacticals.

--------------
Raven Guard - 1750

Captain Kayvaan Shrike - 195

Vanguard Squad (5 men) + 10 x lightning claws + 5 x Jumppack - 310 (Shrikes wing)

Dreadnought + Heavy flamer + Multimelta + Droppod - 150

Dreadnought + Heavy flamer + Multimelta + Droppod - 150

Scout Squad (10 men) + Sniper Rifles + Missile Launcher + Sergeant Telion - 215

Tactical Squad (10 men) + Multimelta + Meltagun + Powerfist + Droppod - 230
Landspeeder + Multimelta + Heavy Flamer X2 - 140

Landspeeder + Multimelta + Heavy Flamer X2 - 140

Assault Squad (10 men) + Flamer x 2 + Power Fist - 225

Hope you prefer these two

Raven Gaurd List Help

At the request of a friend from my local GW I've written a Ravens list using codex space marines and Imperial armour 8.
The list is, fluffy with areas of optimisation, its ,my preferred list style as many will know and I know there are holes that the player will need to learn how to fill, but he goes:

Raven Guard - 1750

Captain Kayvaan Shrike - 195

Captian Korvydae - 155

Scout Squad (10 men) + Sniper Rifles + Sergeant Telion - 205

Assault Squad (10 men) + Flamer x 2 + Power Fist - 235

Assault Squad (10 men) + Flamer x 2 + Power Fist - 235

Assault Squad (10 men) + Flamer + Power sword - 225

Vanguard Squad (5 men) + 10 x lightning claws + 5 x Jump pack - 310 (Shrikes wing)

Landspeeder + Multimelta + Heavy Flamer X2 - 140

Landspeeder + Multimelta - 60

1750

Korvydae needs the scout squad, plus they can hold an objective, assault squads will live one with Shrike and the one without a power fist with Korvydae.
Landspeeders are your anti tank power or anti hoard if need be.
I'd let the vanguard use heroic intervention but here's an alternate "Shrikes Wing"

Command Squad + 8 x Lightning Claw + Apothecary + Droppod + Locator Beacon - 280

this gives you the points to fill in the assault squads, you can also replace Korvydae with a Chaplin but then the list needs to MEGA change as you over use the fast attack slots like me and pointless similes

Hope it helps, feels free to email me/ get a second opinion

The List

The Most current and most used list ever was designed at a house party by friends of mine. I really liked it but it did have flaws. The link is here with GMorts justifications.

http://gmortschaotica.blogspot.com/2011/02/raven-guard-for-tom.html

The list will follow this too.

The first incarnation was a pretty standard Raven guard list, i can't find the word file i apologise. The gist tho was shrike, a couple of assault squads, a sniper scout squad with Tellion and an out flanking combat scout squad with land speeeders for fire power. At this stage the list was also 1500 pts, but Gt is now 1750 so the list needed to change anyway.

These are Gmort and mikes changes.

1750 Pts - Blood Angels Roster - 'Counts-As' Raven Guard 8th Company.

HQ: Commander Dante (1#, 225 pts)
1 Commander Dante @ 225 pts

however recent GW releases have meant some changes the current incarnation is a WIP to get it just right and is currently under pointed, but that will change and the list is currently 2 for 0 so its going well.
